suggestions welcome~

so here is my problem. well not so much of a problem as a project. this rocking chair has been in my family for some time. i know it was my moms and i think her moms as well. when i was little my mom had it in my room. it used to be shiny and had a girl on the back with little lambs i think. anyways in one of the moves it got damaged and my step dad had to repair it. when he did that he decided to sand it down.

last time we were at my moms she gave it to me for my kids. (which i am so thankful for, i love family heirlooms) anyways she had mentioned that between garran and i, she was sure we could come up with a new way to paint it. garran and i have been talking about it for some time. i was thinking it would be cool to some how incorporate my mom and grandmother into the chair. we have talked about painting some kind of tree on the seat with family names or doing something more modern like painting it a solid color and doing circles on it with names in the circles. i have been going to all kinds of websites for ideas. i just have not seen anything that has really inspired me. so i know there are some crafty people out there that read this blog. so i am asking for your help. if you have any ideas or know of any good websites, i would love to know about them.

this picture really has nothing to do with my project. kael just really loves being in pictures...ie center of attention. so i snapped this of him drinking his juice. he is such a ham!!

I have this same problem. Our rocker is sanded part way. My latest idea was to decoupage pics of each person who has used it and apply them onto the backrest. Holding me up now is the thought of seeing my mom's pic who is no longer with us. Then being sad whenever my kids sit there and I will miss her. What do you think?

My first thought was the deco, but I think I like the tree idea. You could put the tree on the seat with the names of family members on the leaves and then put a twig across the top of the backrest with leaves that have your kids names. It'd be easy to paint over the names to even it out as your family grows. There's just be some empty leaves up top now. Then, your kids' names could get bumped to empty leaves on the seat and your grandkids could move to the top. Or something like that...

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
