Sick Day

Today was a sick day for Ayla and I.
Sore throats and runny noses.
She is so much cuter than I am when I am sick. I took some pictures of her.
This little stinker was laying on my bed with me. When I came back she had these two suckers. I asked her where she got them from and she just shrugged her shoulders. She had them stashed somewhere, just waiting for the right moment.
such a stinker.
oh well. At least on a sick day she still makes me laugh.

getting acclimated.

So, you know we have to make at least one trip to the ER to get used to the environment when we move some where new.
This time it was Garran's turn.
He was taking out the trash and a piece of glass ripped through the bag and cut right into his leg.
It bled.... A LOT!
Yes my husband was bleeding.... and yes I stopped to take a picture..

It's who I am people.
I document everything :O)

So we went to the ER.
Here I am with my fancy visitor name tag with my picture on it.
This was a HUGE waste of time. 5 hours or something like that later... We decided to leave. When we went up to the desk to let them know we were leaving (which we had to wait 30 minutes in line to do) they said to us, "Do you want us to have a doctor come out real quick to make sure you are not dying before you leave?". Garran just looked at me and then at them... Kind of like... "ARe you serious?".
He said now. We went home. Now he has a gnarly scar. Oh well. Lesson learned.

Summer Fun!

So this summer we moved to NC.
We now live super close to Garran's sister Jerusha and her family which we are loving!!!
We went to a party at their church that had a huge inflatable water slide.
Well an adult thought it would be fun to give it a whirl and ended up slipping, sliding down the ladder part and landing on Cullan's foot.
Crutches right up until school started. BOO.
Luckily it was not broken... Just a super bad sprain.
Oh the joys of summer fun!

snap shot.

my mom was here helping with the kids while I am still in recovery.
Let me just say that my mother in law and my mom have been amazing!
I would not have been able to get through the last two weeks without them.
They took great care of my kids and my house looked amazing!
Anyways one morning I had road with my mom to take the kids to school and while we were waiting for it to be time, I snapped this picture on my phone.
I love it.
I just think it is cute.

doctors & dates

I had to go into the city for a doctors appointment this afternoon.
Garran came with me so that we could have a date as well. Don't you just love the gowns!
Lovely!
After we were done with the doctor, we walked around downtown for a little while and went in some stores and just enjoyed seeing all the different things you get to see while your in the city.
They had a series of gardens with the dragons that looked like they were diving from one  to the next...very cute.
A statue on her way home.
 Lake Michigan at sunset.
 and last but not least...
Barbie greeting all the traffic that this little work van meets.
We went to dinner at this wonderful little restaurant called, Spacca Napoli.
It was a beautiful night, so we sat outside.
The food was delicious!!
and my date was pretty cute.
I was happy...I love date nights!!
after dinner we walked around again for a little while and then found this place.
I took a picture for my step dad... His name is George.
They had the most delicious ice cream.
They were rated one of the top places in Chicago to go for dessert.
 My dessert was DELICIOUS!!
However it was very rich.
I could not even finish it.
We also decided to bring some treats home for the kids.

We thought these animal cookies would be a hit...and they were!!
Such a fun day with the hubby!
I hope we get to do it again soon!

Sick.

Poor Ayla has been battling a stomach bug for about a week.
It has been no fun.
Long nights...which means long days.
I think she is finally over it.
She looks so grown up here but at the same time she is so tiny.
She will be 2 on the 21st of October and only weighs 28lbs.
She is just my little bean.

2nd try

Second scope done!!
and the best part is... I didn't wake up in the middle of my procedure.
My anesthiologist had the same name as me and it was spelled the same.
Let me just say you can never go wrong with a Meghan with an H.
Thats my theory anyway.
 here I am post procedure.
you can tell by my awesome hospital hair.
on top of not waking up the 2nd scope looked much better and all is well.
woo hoo!!
any time we go into chicago, garran always wants to go to china town and try a new place. he is in love with dumplings. i have to admit they are pretty good. We tried a few different things and brought most of it home with us. It is funny that my doctors appointments turn out to be our dates, but that is just how it seems to go!
I will take what I can get... especially since my beloved goes back to school next week, and I go back to never seeing him.

new look.

well I took Cullan in for his annual pre-school year eye exam.
apparently this kid can not see.
he really had not complained all that much about his eyes, so I was surprised when they said how bad his eyes were.
So they lady helping us was really nice. She brought out almost every frame imaginable and let Cullan try them all on. We narrowed it down to 5, then 3 and this was his final choice.
I think he looks very handsome in them.....
and a little to old for my liking.
Guess I have to give up on him staying little forever!
So in about three weeks, he will be able to see and look very stylish!!

rough day.

yesterday was a rough day.
I had to go get an upper gi endoscopy.
I was not all that nervous because I have had one done before.
I was feeling pretty good when we showed up at the hospital.
Garran sat with me through registration and then had to go out to the waiting room.
I went and got my IV and was wheeled back to the room for my procedure.
this time was a little different.
there was not an official anesthesiologist, just a nurse and  drugs to make me sleepy and then I was out.
the part that was not so great was the fact that i woke up half way through the procedure.
i never opened my eyes. not because I didn't want to, but i was not really able to.
I just remember coming to enough to realize that something was down my throat and I remember hearing the doctor and the nurse say to me that I just needed to calm down and try to breath through my nose. it seemed like forever that i was choking on that thing, but it must have only been a few minutes and then they must have given me some more drugs because the next time i woke up I was in the recovery room with a horrendous sore throat!
then we were headed home.
i was so ready.
i was feeling really groggy from the meds and just wanted to rest.
however when we pulled up in the drive way i saw two boys messing with our duck nest.
as soon as they saw us they took off running.
i guess i have become more attached to this little nest than i had realized.
I was so angry that they were messing with it.
When I went over to check i noticed one of her eggs was missing.
i was so mad at those little boys.
i am sure they were just curious, but I am sure that egg is no more also.
The mam duck came back and is back on her nest. i am sure she realizes one is missing.
I should not get so attached, but I do. I can't help it.

into the city i go.

I had to go into chicago last friday night to have a sleep study done. I have not been sleeping well, and they wanted to see what was going on. I have to admit that I enjoy going into the city. I don't know that I would want to live there, but i do enjoy going in and being around all the activity and people.
Anyways, I went in Friday night and tried to be the most cooperative patient I could be. Having a sleep study is not the most fun thing in the world.
I did get some sleep but not a lot.
They said that my problem is that I am not going through all the cycles of sleep. It seems that I never enter that really deep good sleep that we all need. I just seem to stay in the doze phase all night. That might explain why it feels like I never sleep.
My doctor is supposed to call soon and let me know what they want to do. Hopefully it will equal feeling more rested soon!!

apparently i have done some damage to some ligaments.
oh well. only a few more days till my partner is back!!!

allergy frustration.

can i just say, i hate allergies.
I gave Briea a sample of a cookie at HyVee today. I checked to make sure that they were ok. I thought they were but I guess they had something in them that she was allergic to. Pretty sure I will just have to say no more samples. Her poor face is broken out on both sides and down her neck. I am seriously praying that she out grows some of these.

my little girl.

This is how it has been at our house the last few days.
We have all taken turns laying on the couch feeling miserable.
It has been, well, Miserable!
This little girl has had a fever and a cough that she just can not shake.
However, despite not feeling well, she has been so sweet to me. While I have not been feeling well, she has not left my side. While I was laying on the couch, she would sit by my feet, quietly just watching the movie I had put on for them to watch.
When I decided to sleep on the couch, because I thought it would be easier that way, she slept down stairs with me.
When I got sick in the middle of the night, she rolled over, half awake and said, "you ok mama?". I told her I was and she said, "don't do that again, that not good". I told her I would try. Then she rolled back over and drifted right back off to sleep.
Sometimes when you are sick, it is hard to remember to be thankful for those sharp elbows and hard knees that seem to know just where to poke. But moments like that help me to remember why I need to be thankful for them. Briea has been so sweet to me while I have been sick. She has kept watch over me and tried to be as helpful as an almost three year old can be.
I love all of my children very much.
Today I just wanted to acknowledge Breia's sweetness and her tender little heart.

frazzled.

I am always posting cartoon images of a frazzled woman.
well here is the sad truth.
this is me, right after waking up from sleeping on the couch with a sick child all night.
I decided to post this picture because as I was sitting on the couch i saw my reflection at just how "AWESOME" I looked, only to look over and see briea playing on the steps with her rapunzel doll and dragging her nose across the stairs to clean it off.
one word came to mind.
FRAZZLED!

feeling helpless.

it is miserable to see your child look like this on a regular basis.

it is all over her poor little body and worse then this in spots. these are actually pretty mild. This is all over her back and up into her scalp. it is so frustrating when you have doctors that refuse to do tests to help you figure out what might be triggering these sorts of reactions. so i have decided to do the elimination diet. it is something that a few of my friends have told me about. it is basically what it sounds like. you take all major allergins out of their diet. then you gradually add them back in one by one. when there is a reaction, then you know. I have a sneaking idea that one of her triggers may be red 40. that one is a little harder to catch, but I am going to wait till this outbreak clears up and then try it and see what happens. it seems like such an unfair way to tell. making your child suffer through outbreaks to figure out what is causing it but hopefully i can figure it out quickly. I am also keeping a food journal to try and track what she eats in response to outbreaks. That way if it is not a major allergin, hopefully i will be able to figure out what it is. My last hope is that I am going to start giving her flaxseed in small amounts. I have been doing research online and have found that a small amount of flaxseed each day will help decrease outbreaks and the severity of them. I really hope this works. Keep your fingers crossed for us!!

sick

once again. sick.
when i get sick, man i really get sick.
for some reason, once i get sick, i just can't stop.
i got to the er around 8:00pm and did not leave until 2:00am.
turns out that i had Gastroenteritis, and it kicked my rear end.
luckily i was not admitted. but it did change our plans a little.
i am feeling much better after getting re-hydrated and some medicine to calm my stomach.
as we speak I'm sipping on my Gatorade and slowly munching on some toast.
i have decided to just take things slowly. i am hoping that will help.

no posts.

i have not posted much lately because since thanksgiving we have been doing a lot of sickness at our house. when we have sickness, we also do a lot of sleeping.
here is the proof!

oh wait, this is just Ayla being cute!
back to sleeping.
here's hoping the sickness leaves us soon so we can be well for the holidays.

our story

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
