spanks~

recently we have been struggling with kael and the fact that time outs are not always effective. so we have started doing time outs and if that does not work then we give him a swat on the rear end!
today i was trying to get the kids ready and out the door. kael was being naughty and antagonizing cullan. i asked him to stop, put him in time out, it just would not stop. so i decided to swat his little rear.
cullan was sitting in the living room with us when it happened. i swatted kaels rear and then put him back in time out.
all of a sudden i hear cullan say-
"WOW MOM!! That was some good spanking! WOW MOM...you did such a good job!! GOOD JOB MOM!! you spank kael good!!"
i had to go into the kitchen so he would not see me laugh. he was so sincere!
poor kael.

look at how big she is getting.
she is so cute holding her little head up.
she hates tummy time, so i had to move quick to get these few.
the last one is so funny. she looks angry with her little toy!

out~

but so dang cute together.

stress~

ok these are stressing me out. i know we have gone through this the last few summers. however it seems like everyday there is some kind of warning or the sirens are going off.
ARGG~
storms did not used to bother me. last year we knew people that lost everything in that big tornado that went through parkersburg and new hartford. maybe that is why it scares me a little more. as much as i have been looking forward to summer, i will be glad when we get through this storm season.

naughtiness abounds~

some people may think i exaggerate about how many different things these boys can get into before i even have a chance to stop them!!
I AM NOT EXAGGERATING!!!!
here are two examples- the other day i had got a bag of popcorn from somewhere and thought the boys might like it. i brought it home and before i turned around - kael took the bag and dumped it on the floor!
you might think this happens from a lack of discipline. not true. some days i feel like this kid lives in time out!this morning i was getting ready to go to the farmers market. i came out of the bathroom to find this. my children eating frozen popcorn chicken. SERIOUSLY! all they have to do is ask for food. we don't starve them!
SO NAUGHTY SOMETIMES =)

primary activity~

this past saturday we had a primary activity put on by our church. primary is basically like the part of church when all the children get together in their little classes. anyways they have different activities throughout the year. this was a great one! the boys had so much fun. they had different stations that had different fun things to do.
the first one was a ball toss thing. both boys made it through a couple of times. next we went to the egg walk. doesn't cullan look like such a big kid here. i just can't get used to him growing up.both cullan and kael thought this was pretty cool. kael kept throwing his on the ground. i think in hopes that it would break=)
lets see next was the balloon toss.this was a little hard for them, but they loved the idea of water balloons!k-man did not want his face painted but did want a baseball painted on his hand. whatever!
they also had a sprinkler set up. my boys ran and ran and ran. they love the sprinkler. especially because it was killer hot that day. as they ran their clothes just kept coming off. eventually this is what we ended up with.everyone around me was laughing when kael waddled over to me like this.they also had a swimming pool set up. here is Miss O having some fun. she was one of cullans mom school friends.briea was so good. she slept through 90% of the activities, which was nice b/c garran had to work this morning. i had all three by myself but they did really well.
last but not least they had a tug of war!here are the boys getting ready!the first time the boys team won. the second time...wellthey did not. i dont know if you can tell but this is right before cullan completely bailed out. the losing team ended up in the pool. cullan was not having that. kael however went face first. i did not get a picture because i think it shook him a little and i went over to make sure he was ok. he climbed out of the pool-no harm done-just SOAKED!! all in all they had a blast.
thanks to everyone who help plan the day!

baby love~

i love her chub!

pickles & suffering~

so in our house cullan tends to be an early riser. this morning garran decided to get up with him and i slept for a little longer. when i woke up garran relayed the following story to me.
he said that when they came out into the living room cullan kept asking for what sounded like "a hickey". garran would ask him a few more times before he realized cullan meant a pickle. (sometimes my kids make up weird names for things) anyways garran granted his wish. then garran said he must have dozed off for a minute because he said before he knew it he was waking up to something cold being shoved in his mouth and cullan laughing saying
"DADDY, PICKLE SURPRISE-PICKLE SURPRISE!"
i laughed out loud at the vision of garran getting a half eaten pickle shoved in his mouth.
while he was telling me this story, kael was in time out. he heard me laughing and yelled..
"NO HAPPY MOMMY....NO HAPPY MOMMY!!!!"
garran jokingly said. "meghan no one can be happy while kael is in time out. we all have to suffer" then from the time out stool we hear.
"YOU SUFFER....YOU SUFFER....YOU SUFFER!!!!"

hello~

in general!
i have noticed lately how kids tend to generalize things. lump everything into a category that they feel is appropriate.
we went to look at a house the other day and there was an Amish man there who was doing some repairs.
cullan walked right up to him and said "HELLO FARMER!"
i guess cullan thought that was what group he fell into.
then very loudly as most children seem to whisper he says
"mom you see that FARMER"
i looked back at the nice Amish man who was smiling and said yes i do.
------------------------------------
one more example.
today at the grocery store i had all three kids with me doing some shopping.
i think every elderly person in our town was there.
it was pretty busy. all of a sudden from the front of my cart. (it was one of the carts that has a car that the kids can drive hooked on the front.)
anyways like i said from the front of my cart all of a sudden i hear...
"excuse me grandma....honk honk...excuse me grandmas!!!!!

isn't she wonderful!

opps~

briea was outside too.
she was just hanging out being cute.
i forgot to add her in our pictures.
she was there and so dang cute.

look at those lashes!

i just love her smile!

sparklers~

last night i got some sparklers because i knew that the kids had never tried them before and i thought they would be. they were a HIT!they thought they were so much fun. i wish we would have waited till later so it would have been darker. oh well. the kids still had fun.kael was very fascinated and tried to touch the sparkly part more than once. that kid is definitely one that learns through trial and error!
next we moved on to side walk chalk. typical cullan to line stuff up like a train. =)
kael loved to color outside. he was having a blast. one of our little neighbor girls came out to play too.kael-bael helping daddy.garran decided to get down and play with the kids. usually when the kids do side walk chalk, garran does it too. in the past our neighbors will always comment on how one drawing is really awesome. garran usually blames it on the kids=)

our story

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."

-President Gordon B. Hinckley
