A Caucusing We Will Go!

So I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to write this blog. If there was one thing that my mother said growing up was that you never discuss politics or religion. Well I have found that at least one of those has been very true in my life. Politics. Politics always seems to flare up peoples emotions and even between friends there have been awkward moments when certain views do not align. However I decided to write this anyway and hopefully not offend anyone. I think I have made a decision about who I will be caucusing for on the 3rd but to keep hate/love mail to a minimum I will not reveal who it is. However I wonder how many of you will be out doing the same on the third. I have to admit this is my first time taking a real interest in the election. In the past I just voted in the final deal and that was it. However as I have researched all of the candidates that are left to choose from, I find myself and I hate to say this choosing the lesser of two evils. There is not one candidate that fits everything that I am looking for. I wish I could say "Oh yes this guy is perfect" But of course I think we know that is unrealistic especially in politics. I got really frustrated the other day as I was researching each one. I would start to get excited about a candidate and then hit a topic that was very important to me and hit a wall because they did not share my view. Oh well I guess that is the point of these, to find out which person best matches what you want. I think that the next person we elect has a lot of work in store for them, and I hope as citizens we are smart enough to elect someone that will do a really good job. Ok off my soap box. All for now. Enjoy the 3rd whatever you decided to do.

Winter Hassel.... This is my story!

OK SO I HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE JUNO, HOWEVER I LOVE THE LINE OFF THE COMMERCIAL. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO KNOW ME KNOW JUST HOW APPROPRIATE THIS IS FOR ME. IT IS SO TRUE TOO.
"HE IS THE CHEESE TO MY MACARONI"
GARRAN HAS SAID BEFORE "OUR KIDS WILL COME OUT ORANGE BECAUSE OF MACARONI". I EAT IT OFTEN FOR LUNCH WITH THE KIDS.

  • oh yeas another trip to the ER for Cullan .. This time he thought it would be fun to touch the iron. Now everything is hot and we have to blow on it until ice forms.

This year by far has not been our best. Garran and I have been talking recently about how we are ready for this year to just be over with. Granted there have been good things that have happened this year and for those things we are greatful. But of all the things we have been through this year, the biggest lesson I have learned is how greatful I am for my family. I love them all. I especially love Garran and the boys. I do not know what I would do without them. Garran is my best bud and always knows just what to say to make things better when I feel like I am at the end of my rope. His year has been stressful this year with school, work, my multiple surgeries and other stressers and yet he never complains. I love that about him. He is great. Cullan and Kael are two of the sweetest boys. The are so funny. Every day brings a new adventure. What would I do without there sweet smile and sloppy kisses. I just want to say how important family is to me and how greatful I am for mine especially today.

A blog for our Friendly Neighbors!

I often like to post funny things that children say. My own children don't really speak that much yet. Cullan has an OK vocabulary but not sentences and things like that. Anyways I was watching my Friendly Neighbors girls when this conversation happened with her little girl.

So this is how it went: Me: "Are you excited about Christmas this year?"
PB: "Yes, I am very excited!"
Garran: "Do you think Santa will be coming to your house this year?"
PB: "I don't know"
Me: "Well have you been a good girl this year?"
PB: "I don't know, I am still waiting to find out!"
I thought that was just to funny not to share. PB is always very to the point in our conversations.

Gillespie-Loden Christmas

This year we spent actual Christmas Day with Garran's parents. It was fun. We decorated some Christmas cookies. The kids really liked that, well just licking the frosting off. And then we played some card games but really just did a lot of hanging out. Hope everyone had a safe and Merry Christmas!

Our Family Christmas!

So this is the cutest video we have taken in a long time. Garran and I both agree that we just can not get over how cute Kael was. For Christmas Kael got this monkey that when you pet it makes different noises and moves it's little arms and legs. We had seen it in a store one day when Kael was with us and he just loved playing with it, so this is him right after he opened it. We have video of him opening it that is really cute too, but we thought this one was better. Enjoy!

Christmas with Grandpa Jeff

This weekend my Dad came up to have an early Christmas with Garran, myself and the boys. We also celebrated his birthday due to the fact that it is on the 30th of this month. We had a great visit and really enjoyed our time together even though we are in the middle of a small blizzard. Hopefully everyone gets home safely today. The roads still look pretty gross. Hope everyone is getting excited about Christmas. We are having our own little family Christmas tonight and then are spending actual Christmas with Garrans family. All for now. Hope you enjoy the slide show.

Obsessed with cute feet!

So I already posted this picture. Cullan and I were watching Polar Express and I noticed his cute little toes. Crossed and looking like little gum drops. I love his little round toes. So tonight this was how he was sitting with his cute little feet crossed. Sorry it was a little blurry due to my rushing to get the picture. But you can still see the cute factor.

Indoor Playground

Today we went to an indoor playground due to the Yucky weather we have had recently. Things have been kind of blah lately so I thought it would be good for us to get out of the house for a while. Here are some pictures and a video of our day. Enjoy!

Unexpected Holiday Kindness!

I love what the holidays does to people. Well I guess some people. Hopefully most people. This is a lovely basket that our upstairs neighbor just knocked on our door and dropped off. How nice. We talk to him when we see him outside and things like that. What a nice holiday surprise... Thanks Neighbor Upstairs!

More Sugary Fun

Tonight we had the missionaries over for dinner which we do pretty frequently. This night however we decided to spread a little Christmas fun and make ginger bread houses with them. Well I guess graham cracker houses. Still they had a lot of fun and so did we. We had already done it once at Garrans parents house, but we did it again just so the Elders could get in on the holiday fun. We try to do something like this each Christmas just to have a little fun. So here are the pictures of our houses. I thought that the did a pretty good job. Enjoy!

SPT

are you up late at night getting ready for Christmas? are you surprised, as an adult, how much effort it takes to make the holiday *magical?* if you're already "ready," do you take time to sit in the glow of the tree and the candles and really enjoy the spirit of the season? is there a favorite Christmas movie that you watch, or favorite music that you enjoy? are you rested and relaxed? or a tad frazzled, like me?
Yes I am up late every night working on different things for Christmas. Wrapping presents, making gifts, or just plain cleaning. I think this time of year is magical no matter what so for me everything else like decorations etc are just ice on the cake. I try every night even if it is just for a minute or two before I go to bed to sit and enjoy just the Christmas tree lights. I turn all the other lights off and just sit there and look out our window at all the snow. It's GREAT! Our family does have a favorite Christmas movie, but it is different for everyone. Mine and kids would be Polar Express my husbands is the Grinch with Jim Carrey. As much as I would like to think that I am relaxed I always stress at the holidays, hoping that everything goes well and that everyone gets along. This picture is not me I know but my son was so funny. Still in his PJ's , he had to have his sippie cup and his book bag on, then he got a blanket and wanted me to cover him up on the couch. So funny. I had to use it.
This is my favorite picture of Cullan and I at his first Christmas. I love his little smile.

Christmas Traditions

So every year we do certain traditions. As stated in my spt blog, each year we make home made ornament. Garrans family had a tradition of making ginger bread houses. So each year we make ginger bread houses with his family. Here are the end results. I also just threw in some cute pics of Kael I found on Garrans moms camera. Enjoy!

SPT

THIS WEEKS SPT CHALLENGE-do you have an ornament tradition? how about a favorite ornament? for this challenge, focus on the ornaments that actually hang on your tree, on how much joy can be found in something small.

YES I DO!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS TO DO AT CHRISTMAS IS TO MAKE HOMEMADE ORNAMENTS. MY MOM INTRODUCED THIS IDEA WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. WE MADE ALL KINDS OF HOMEMADE DOUGH ORNAMENTS. THEY ARE MY FAVORITE. THE FIRST YEAR GARRAN AND I WERE MARRIED WE DID NOT HAVE MUCH MONEY, SO I CALLED MY MOM, GOT THE RECEIPT AND TA DA WE HAD SOMETHING TO DECORATE OUR TREE WITH. WE HAVE SAVED THEM AND ADDED TO THEM EACH YEAR. THEY ARE NOT FANCY, BUT I LOVE THE WAY OUR TREE LOOKS EACH YEAR WITH OUR LITTLE DOUGH ORNAMENTS HANGING ON IT.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Moments that I Never Want to Forget!

First of all I have to start off by saying that I love this time of year. I really love it. I have favorite holidays but recently this has been moving to the top of my list on favorite holidays. Anyways, my boys and I were sitting watching the Polar Express the other night. I love that movie and so do the boys. My hubby likes it, but does not like to watch it a million times like the boys and I do. Anyways I was sitting watching the movie and Cullan leans over and wants to hold my hand, which melts my heart every time. Then I happened to look down and notice Cullan's little feet. I do not know why but when I looked at them, I thought these are the moments that I do not want to ever forget so I snapped this picture of his feet. How cute right. I thought it was so funny that that is how we had been sitting for the majority of the movie and I just had not noticed. Then of course when my other little sweetie noticed that I had the camera out, he wanted in on the action. So here is my other cutie saying "CHEESE" for the camera. I love moments like these! They make having a family so much fun!

RAK

So maybe it is the season or maybe I am just a nice person, you can decide. But I saw a blog and each week this lady does a random act of kindness. A bunch of people have got on board and so this will be my first post about RAK! I was at the drug store the other night and as I was rounding the corner I saw an elderly woman stretching to reach something. I started to just go down the next isle when I turned around and said "Do you need some help" she said yes and explained that she needed the Prilosec off the very top shelf but could not reach it. So I easily reached it and handed her the boxes she needed. It feels good to do a good deed. =)

What a talented GUY!

So I have to brag about Garran. I love days like this when he brings home stuff that he has been working on all semester. I get so excited at seeing what he can do. Some of it is funky, but I like it just the same. I am so excited about his BFA show. I can't wait to see what he will do with a whole semester just to paint and draw. Anyways I hope you all enjoy these as much as I do.

SPT

i love to see how people display the cards they receive each year. some tuck them into a basket, to be savored over a cup of cocoa or tea in the evening; some line a doorway with their cards, creating a holiday decoration of their own. some display their cards on ribbons, some on a tree.how do you display the cards you receive??

We are boring and just display them on the door. I hate to admit this, but those are cards from last year that I had to put up because I have not got any Christmas cards yet this year =( Maybe someday soon!

JURY DUTY.......BLAH BLAH BLAH

Today was my first time ever serving on Jury Duty. Oh my gosh is it boring. So redundant. Over and over the same questions. I am all about doing my civic duty. But wow was this boring. And the best part is that I get to go back tomorrow. See I was supposed to report there at 8:30 this morning, which I did. So we sit for about an hour and then the come in and say that there is some kind of mistake and that we have to come back at one. So we leave and come back only to sit there for an hour and a half waiting for them to get things started. I thought I was going to go crazy. Not to mention I have a nack for sitting next to interesting people. So when I first get there I sit down and this guy comes and sits down next to me. We are chatting and being friendly. Then he goes "I am surprised that I even got a jury notice, last time I was in a court room I was on the other side". I just kind of laughed. Then he says " I didn't think that they let convicted felons be on juries." YIKES! He seemed like a nice guy. Just caught me a little off guard. Oh well, back tomorrow for more boring questions and a day away from my kids. I know most people would think that was a good thing. I would rather be with my kids. AHHHHHHH

Ahh another trip to the ER!!

So as we were getting ready for church today Garran decided to iron his pants. I was in the bathroom blow drying my hair and I heard Garran say to Cullan "Don't touch son, that is very hot". Garran then turned to tell me something and next thing we know Cullan is screaming. Of course he touched it. It was just to big of a temptation. So our friendly neighbors let us borrow some burn cream, but because one of the burns was open I panicked and thought he should be checked out. So we took him and they basically gave us a band aid, said they were second degree burns and to bandage them up with burn cream when we got home. I was a little miffed at their lack of concern. I did not expect anything major but more than a band aid. It was both of his little hands. Oh well he seems fine after a little pain med and a nap. Hope every ones holidays are going well. Tomorrow I am off to print our Christmas cards. I am so excited. I love sending them out and receiving them.

FLASH BACK FRIDAY--ON SATURDAY

I THOUGHT THIS PICTURE WAS PERFECT BECAUSE WHEN GARRAN AND I FIRST STARTED DATING ALL HE WOULD EVER SAY WAS HOW HE WAS NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN MARRIAGE! GOOD THING HE CHANGED HIS MIND!
THINGS HAVE BEEN A LITTLE HECTIC AND I FORGOT TO DO MY FLASH BACK FRIDAY. SO NOT ONLY AM I DOING IT A DAY LATE, I AM STEALING MY FRIEND MANDY'S TOPIC. TODAY I AM GOING TO TALK ABOUT GARRAN AND MYSELF AND THE DAY THAT HE PROPOSED SINCE IT IS COMING UP ANYWAYS. ON DECEMBER 13TH 5 YEARS AGO GARRAN CAME OVER TO MY APARTMENT. I HAD NOT BEEN FEELING WELL AND

SO I WAS STILL IN MY PJ'S! (MY MOST FAVORITE SWEATS). SO ANYWAYS I WAS LAYING ON THE COUCH WHEN GARRAN SHOWED UP. I WAS WATCHING BRAVE HEART ON TV AND HE CAME IN AND WE SAT DOWN AND STARTED WATCHING IT TOGETHER. (SIDE NOTE: WE HAD BEEN DATING FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND MARRIAGE HAD COME UP BUT IT SEEMED AS IF FROM OUR LAST CONVERSATION THAT IT WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON!) SO ANYWAYS WE WERE WATCHING TV AND IT WAS THE PART OF THE MOVIE WHEN MEL GIBSON PROPOSES TO THE BRUNETTE LADY. JUST THEN GARRAN STARTED ACTING KIND OF FIDGETY. SO I DID NOT REALLY PAY MUCH MIND TO IT. BUT HE STARTED ASKING ME ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS AND BEING VERY SWEET. I COULD TELL HE WAS NERVOUS, BUT IN MY MIND I KIND OF THOUGHT IS HE GETTING READY TO DUMP ME OR SOMETHING. SO ANYWAYS AS WE WERE SITTING THERE TALKING HE SAID WELL I THINK THAT WE SHOULD GET MARRIED. I DIDN'T REALLY SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW IF HE WAS STATING OR ASKING SO I JUST KIND OF LOOKED AT HIM AND SAID OK. I DID NOT KNOW TILL LATER THAT HE WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH MY RESPONSE BUT I HONESTLY DID NOT KNOW HE WAS ASKING. SO FINALLY I SAID ARE YOU ASKING ME. AND HE SAID YES. SO THEN I SAID YES. THEN HE LOOKED AT THE CLOCK AND HAD 5 MINUTES TO BE THERE. HE HAD NO IDEA HE WAS GOING TO PROPOSE SO HE DID NOT HAVE THE RING OR ANYTHING. AS HE WALKED OUT THE DOOR, I YELLED DOWN THE STAIRCASE (I LIVED ON THE THIRD FLOOR) AND SAID I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD COME BACK AFTER WORK .. WE HAVE SOME STUFF TO TALK ABOUT. HE AGREED. AND IT IS ALL HISTORY FROM THERE. I THINK I MIGHT GIVE MY BOYS ADVICE ON PROPOSING IF THEY WANT IT. NOT THAT MINE WAS BAD BUT I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THE PROPOSAL CAN BE TO THE GIRL. =)

PAYBACK!! SHOULD THIS BE OUR CHRISTMAS CARD?

THIS IS WHAT I STUMBLED UPON. HOW FUNNY. DON'T WORRY WE LET CULLAN OUT OF HIS BOX. THE DAY BEFORE THIS IS HOW I FOUND HIM ON OUR FLOOR THE OTHER DAY. MY KIDS REALLY LIKE BOXES.

OH WISH I MAY.. OH WISH I MIGHT......

HOW I WISH I HAD ONE OF THESE IN MY BACK YARD. I GUESS THAT MAY BE OTHERS FEELINGS AS WELL DURING THIS TIME OF YEAR. IT SEEMS NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE SAVE AND BUDGET, SOME THING ALWAYS COMES UP THAT SEEMS TO THROW A HICCUP. BUT THANK GOODNESS FOR HOLIDAY ANGELS. OURS COMES IN THE FORM OF OUR CAR DEALERSHIP. I KNOW MOST OF YOU ARE THINKING WHAT SINCE A LOT OF PEOPLE DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE GOOD RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR CAR DEALERSHIPS, BUT WE DO. OUR DEALERSHIP IS THE MOST HONEST PLACE ON EARTH I THINK. OUR VAN STARTED ACTING UP OVER THANKSGIVING AND SO WE TOOK IT IN WHEN WE GOT HOME. AT FIRST THEY CALLED BACK AND SAID THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST LIKE $580.00. YOU CAN IMAGINE GARRAN AND I WERE NOT SO EXCITED, SO WE TOLD THEM TO FIX WHAT WE COULD AFFORD TO FIX AND THE REST WOULD HAVE TO WAIT. SO THEY AGREED AND WE HUNG UP. ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER THEY CALLED BACK AND SAID THAT THEY HAD DONE SOME RESEARCH ON OUR VAN, AND THEY HAD DONE SOME WORK ONLY ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO ON IT. THEY SAID THAT DUE TO THE WORK THEY DID, WE SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. DUE TO THAT, THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD FIX PART OF IT FREE OF CHARGE. OUR BILL WAS CUT MORE THAN IN HALF. THANK GOODNESS FOR CHRISTMAS ANGELS.

FLASH BACK FRIDAY

OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT GARRAN. BUT MY FLASHBACK FRIDAY HAS TO DO WITH MY HUBBY. UNFORTUNATELY SINCE WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED GARRAN HAS BEEN THE BRUNT OF SOME OF MY FUNNIER STORIES. WHEN I WAS ABOUT EIGHT MONTHS PREGO WITH CULLAN GARRAN DECIDED THAT I SHOULD CUT HIS HAIR TO SAVE MONEY. SO WE WENT AND BOUGHT CLIPPERS AND TRIED THIS NEW ADVENTURE OUT. GARRAN SAT DOWN IN OUR KITCHEN AND I STARTED BUZZING AWAY. FOR THE MOST PART IT WENT PRETTY WELL, A LITTLE SHORTER THAN WE HAD PLANNED BUT IT WAS NOT HORRIBLE. SO THEN I TOOK THE GUARD OFF TO DO HIS NECK AND BY HIS EARS. AS I WAS FINISHING UP HIS NECK, I TOOK A SMALL SECOND BECAUSE I COULD FEEL A SNEEZE COMING ON. SO AS I SNEEZED, THE CLIPPERS STILL BUZZING, LUNGED FORWARD AND TOOK A HUGH CHUNK OF HAIR OUT OF THE BACK OF GARRANS HEAD. THERE WAS A HUGH BALD SPOT. I STARTED LAUGHING AND THEN CRYING A TAD BIT. GARRAN ASKED WHAT WAS WRONG AND I SAID NOTHING AT FIRST BUT KNEW I WOULD HAVE TO FESS UP, BECAUSE AS SOON AS HE LEFT THE HOUSE SOMEONE WOULD ASK HIM WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED TO HIS HAIR. GARRAN STILL TRUSTS ME TO CUT HIS HAIR, WHAT A BRAVE SOUL.

WHY I MARRIED THIS MAN!

SO I HAVE TO TELL EVERYONE WHAT A GREAT HUSBAND I HAVE AND JUST HOW MUCH I LOVE HIM. HE IS A PERFECT MATCH I THINK. WE BOTH HAVE OUR LITTLE QUIRKS BUT HE MAKES ME SO HAPPY. FOR MY BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR MONEY WAS A LITTLE TIGHT AS IT ALWAYS IS THIS TIME OF YEAR FOR US BECAUSE WE DO A LOT OF TRAVELING AND WE HAVE A LOT OF FAMILY TO SEE. ANYWAYS THAT IS BESIDES THE POINT. SO I KNOW GARRAN HAD SOME IDEAS OF GIFTS BUT HE HAD TO SCRAP THEM SO THAT WE COULD DO OTHER THINGS THAT WERE MORE IMPORTANT TO ME. MY HUBBY BEING THE GREAT MAN THAT HE IS DID NOT LEAVE ME EMPTY HANDED ON MY BIG BIRTHDAY. I WOKE UP SUNDAY MORNING TO BREAKFAST IN BED. FRENCH TOAST AND FRUIT. YUMMY! THEN AS I GOT UP (OH YEAH I GOT TO SLEEP IN KID FREE =) BUT AS I GOT UP I WAS WAKING UP TO A SPOTLESS HOUSE PEOPLE. NO NOT A TIDY HOUSE AN ABSOLUTE SPOTLESS HOUSE. EVERYTHING WAS SPARKLING CLEAN, NOTHING ON THE FLOOR. NO TOYS, NO CLOTHES, NOTHING. AND IT WAS NOT JUST THE LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN, BUT EVERY SINGLE ROOM. i WAS SO IMPRESSED AND EXCITED. GARRAN KNOWS HOW MUCH I LOVE A CLEAN HOUSE. THEN HE SAID HIS GIFT TO ME WAS A DAY OF NOT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING. IF THE BOYS WERE ACTING UP HE TOOK CARE OF IT. HE DEALT WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE PROBLEMS OF THE DAY. IT WAS A PERFECT DAY AND I AM SO THANKFUL FOR A MAN THAT REALLY GETS ME ENOUGH, THAT EVEN WHEN MONEY IS TIGHT, HE STILL MAKES MY BIRTHDAY SO SPECIAL... i LOVE YA HONEY!

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
