so unpredictable~

Today was our nursery concert at church. I was so excited. we had practiced the songs with the boys for almost three weeks. they knew them pretty well, and definitely knew all the motions. well you would have never guessed that we even looked at the list from the way my kids sat there! i could not stop laughing. ( sorry to the other parents around me, i just got so tickled i could not stop laughing) i could not believe it. they finally start to do something towards the end. oh well go figure. sorry none of our videos have any sound. stupid camera..

oh yes and notice my kids are the ones with the binkies and no shoes on! ARGG!

this was curls pretty much the whole time!

and this was pretty much rewind!rewind finally getting into it.but um still not so much for curls.

this last video cracks me up. it is the kids singing the crocodile song. rewind gets so excited right before the monkey gets snapped out of the tree. if you can tell curls was looking right at me while he was going through his motions. i was prompting him due to his lack of interest on the other songs!

surprise~

well we figured it was time to break the news. we waited this time because of all the problems with miscarriages previously. but anyways we are almost 13 weeks and everything seems to be going well. we are very excited and can't wait till october to hopefully see if we will be adding another little fella or a sweet baby girl to our family! so now i guess we are just on the countdown, march 10 here we come!

date night sucess~

tonight sargento and i got to go out for a date while his sister watched the boys for us. we went out to dinner, which was pretty good. then we were trying to decide what to do and it was fun to kind of revert back to the days of our early dating. we went and played black light putt putt, then we played a few games in the arcade that was attached. sargento was amazed at my ability and the fighting games. i told him it was pint up aggression from long days with lots of time outs=). he was not surprised at my driving skills however, he always teases me about my crazy driving anyways. i am a really safe driver though!
it was a really fun evening, and needed just because i feel like its important to continually have fun with your spouse!

squeeze!

well as most of you know, potty training in our house has been an ongoing thing. we are constantly asking curls if he has to go potty, then sitting him on the potty in hopes that something will happen. as a joke one night, sargento was sitting with curls while he was on the potty and sargento said "well curls just squeeze your tummy to go potty" and he put one hand on his back and one hand on his tummy and squeezed. i guess curls thought that was a good idea, because last night he was sitting on the potty and i happened to walk past the bathroom and i hear "squeeze~squeeze~squeeze". curls had one little hand on his tummy and on hand on his back and i guess he thought it would work because his daddy had told him about it. well to our great surprise it did. what a successful night on the potty!!
(after posting this i thought "hmm, wonder how many people really want to hear our potty stories?" sorry if you are one of the ones not that interested!)

a breath of fresh air~

recently i have been giving a lot of thought to what kind of parent i am and the effects that society has on my husband and kids. anyways today i was watching oprah, and saw this man, rabbi shmuley. what a breath of fresh air this guy was. i was listening to him and just felt like, he probably was not saying anything new just stuff that everyone these days needs to hear. one of my favorite quotes was from the first family they interviewed. this family had four children that thought their mother nagged to much and that the dad was there but basically checked out of their lives. this was rabbi shmuley's advice to them:

Rabbi Shmuley says the Hurons are making a common mistake by parenting out of fear and trying to be their children's friend. "We believe that by coming off the pedestal and not asserting authority, they will embrace us much more warmly—it is simply not true," he says. "They will have many friends in life—they will have one father, they will have one mother."Rabbi Shmuley says Greg is allowing his success outside the home to determine his success inside the home—when he feels he falls short, the whole family suffers. "It comes down to money and fame," Rabbi Shmuley says. "So the average guy who just does the right thing but is unknown for it feels like he's a zero."In order to be a successful family unit, Rabbi Shmuley says Ruth and Greg need to redefine success in their lives. "The man who sits and does homework with his children when nobody is watching…The man who conquers his passions and focuses his lust on one woman—his wife—when no one's watching…To do right because it's right—that is heroic," Rabbi Shmuley says.

the whole show was awesome, they touched on this family, then a family whose kids were spoiled, one that had suffered a great loss in their lives. it was just great. if you have a second you should really go and watch it or at least read the transcript of it. it really was an awesome show. if you would like to read it or watch it you can click here!

a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils~

ok the title of my post is a stretch from the topic but how many of you have ever seen the tom hanks ~ meg ryan film, "you've got mail"? i loved that movie. i just thought it was cute and light hearted. anyways i love the line in it from tom hanks where he says:

"Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms."

i love it because i love school supplies myself. as a kid i always looked forward to the first day of school. i loved getting all my supplies organized and put just where i wanted. (im a nerd i know)

so recently school has started in our area and i see all the kids getting on the bus and thought about how for curls it will be here before i know it. in two more years i thought we will be stocking up on school supplies and figuring classroom stuff! well that time has come early than i thought... in a way.

last week a girl i go to church with called and asked if i would be interested in "mom school". At first i was not sure how it would work with rewind having to tag along but once she explained the schedule, it all worked out and so i agreed. i am so excited for curls. i think he will really enjoy it. so have i peeked your interest into what our version of "mom school" is, well.....

ok so this is how it works. we meet twice a week. there are five moms and five kids. each mom takes a week of teaching. the other moms drop their kids off at your house and get to enjoy some free time while the one mom teaches. when its your week to teach you cover one letter, one number, and one color. since all of the kids are 3 and preparing for preschool it works out great. each mom is also responsible for a field trip. they get to choose where, but they are responsible for planning it. i am pretty sure it goes about the length of the school year, but i have to double check! anyways i think it will be a lot of fun. i can not wait.

so to tie in the quote from above, today curls and i went and bought his school supplies for mom school. each child got a list of things they would need and so we went and took care of that. curls was not super excited about the back pack choice because he recently received a Thomas back pack but it is too small for his 3-ring binder. so his choices were spider man or elmo.. the spiderman book bag was ugly so i was kind of happy that he opted for the skateboarding elmo one.

i will have to keep everyone posted on how mom school goes. i think it will be a great thing to get us through the winter and keep us motivated to get out and do stuff!

watching buds~

today i watched a friends kids, and they were being so cute, i had to snap a couple of pictures of them. the littlest guy found a bink, which he normally never uses, but was very happy to play with the one he found. Eden was not to thrilled that she had to watch the thomas movie when she first got here, i believe our conversation went something like this:
eden: um i really like princess movies!
me: i bet, unfortunately we don't have any of those because i don't have any girls yet.
eden: um i hate thomas!
me: (laughing) im sorry this one is almost over.
poor eden had to watch the last little bit of the never ending thomas movie at our house.
i have more pictures so if you want to see them you can click HERE!

with a new car seat comes new sassy!

so curls got a new carseat yesterday, although because i have not been feeling well, i did not get it put together and installed until today. sargento was working and so the boys and i thought we would take him so lunch. when curls got out to the car, he was completely impressed with his new seat. he hopped right in and let me buckle him in. i showed him the arm rest, and his cool new cup holder, all the nice features! then as we were driving i noticed a difference in my eldest son in his new cool car seat, he was being a bit bossy. oh no not to his brother but to me. as i was driving he would say "mom, no go this way" or "go there" pointing to a store that he wanted to go to. i would say "no honey, we are going to get daddy lunch remember?" his response "ooookk fine!" i know he is not even three.
this new sassy attitude extends beyond the cool new car seat. the other day i asked him to get down from the computer desk and he just kind of looked at me. so i repeated myself and said "you have to three" as i started to count curls says with some attitude "OK FINE MOM"! of course sargento says that this is due to curls and i spending to much time together. =) i of course then tell him that if they would not have gotten their naughtiness from their father there would be no need of sas from their mother.

no after all that they do have their sweet moments to. i had to stop to get gas on this same adventure out and it was a nice but warm day. i decided to get the boys something to drink. when i brought it out to the kiddos, curls goes "oh tank you mommy, tank you" which of course just melts my heart.

the prayers of kiddos~

i got these in an email and they made me giggle a little. thought someone else out there might think they were cute too!

new layout

well i love this new background from the cutest blog on the block, however as I was looking at it I realized that it is very fallish. is it really that time again. i mean august is almost over. we really have not had a very hot summer so the fact that it cools down at nights here makes me feel in some ways that we are already heading into fall. i have to admit that it is my most favorite time of year. i love everything about it. i love the colors, i love the weather, two of my most favorite people were born during that season. not to mention that there are so many fun things to do. hayrides, pumpkin patches, trick or treating, pumpkin lands etc. you guys get the idea. I actually have the windows open in our house today and it is just comfortable. i am trying to get some fresh air running through here since i have not been feeling good. fresh air always seems to help. hope everyone has a great saturday, i am not sure what ours holds in store yet, but hopefully i will be feeling better by the time sargento gets home!

have any of you?

is there anyone else out there who has ever had this conversation on a daily basis with their almost three year old?
curls: mom, mom, mom, mom mom
CG: yes
curls: (blank stare) mom, mom, mom, mom
CG: yes honey what do you need?
curls: umm, mom, mom, mom, mom, mom
CG: ok you have to use some words and let me know what you need, ok?
curls: ok, mom
few minutes later same conversation~ anyone or am i going to just pull my hair out all by myself?

sometimes i wonder

so today we were shopping at a local grocery store. they have these carts that look like cop cars, fire trucks, dump trucks, you get the idea. anyways the boys love them. so sargento was pushing the cart with the boys driving and this is what you here from the cart..

boys: vvvrrrrrroooooommmmmm, wooo hooo
(rounding a corner)
vvvvvvvvrrrrrrrrrrroooommmmmmmmmm wooooo hooooo
(going down a straight away.. isle i mean)
vvvvvvvvvvrrrrrroooooommmmmmmm woooooo hooooo

this is the part i wonder about ~ the looks
there are usually a few different ones that i have seen at least, and they are as follows
1. loving smile from mothers or grandparents, who think your children are cute and think of their own loved ones
2. the quick snap of the neck to see who in the world is making that noise, then once they see it is two little boys, go on about their shopping without really any emotion at all.
3. then there is the glare, with the nasty face, and the look of complete disapproval. i always think they must be thinking "can't you get your kids under control"

arggg.. this is honestly how i feel about the situation and feel free to let me know what you think. now while my children were having fun and saying vroom and woo hoo, they were not screaming at the top of their lungs. lighten up people. im sure if someone would let me drive a hugh go cart around a grocery store i might have the same response. don't get me wrong, i do think the volume needs to be kept at a decent level, but we are not in the library we are at a grocery store! maybe im crazy.. lately it would not surprise me if that were the case!

congrats to these ladies..

congrats to shawn johnson on finally getting her gold. i have to admit i was pulling for team usa, but secretly was really wanting shawn to walk away with a gold of her own. so congrats to her!!
then these ladies last night were great. 108 games undefeated. that is incredible. how exciting to be the only people in volleyball to get gold twice. good for them.
sorry about the lack of post.. i have been feeling kind of yucky and i have just been super busy!

who's got the funk?

(WARNING THIS POST WILL CLUE YOU IN TO SOME OF MY MORE WEIRD MOM MOMENTS!)
ok so a few months ago one of the boys was stinky and they were both running around trying to avoid me so that i could not discover who it was. so all of a sudden i started singing the following~ "who's got the funk, curls got that funk WOOOOOO, who's got the funk, rewinds got that funk, WOOOO!"
so i would sing it over and over till they were laughing so hard that i finally got a hold of them and figured out which one was stinky. then while i was changing that diaper i was singing that same little bit but only using that kids name! the boys thought it was hilarious and has become kind of a family tradition. now when ever i think someone is stinky i start singing and the boys think it is hilarious. the like to do the WOOOOOO part. (i do it kind of loudly, im weird i know)
anyways today the boys were in the shower just kind of playing and i walk into to put my contacts in and get ready to go to the store when i notice the boys are singing. this is how it went down~
curls - "who got funk"
rewind - WOOOOOOO
curls "who got funk"
rewind - WOOOOOO
as you can imagine it went on until they heard me go get sargento to listen too. then they were both peeking their head around the shower curtain laughing because they knew they had been caught..
i think i am turning my kids weird!!

ok this is a mom moment~

ok so this is a post that is really just for me. i get excited about stupid things. however this one i came home from the store today and even sargento said he was somewhat impressed with my new skill. ok so for most of you, you have probably figured this out a long time ago. sometimes i am a little slow on the uptake.
so i was inspired by john and kate plus 8. i love that they feed their hugh family very healthy food and all on a relatively small budget. i think she said she spends about $150.00 dollars a week. so i thought if she can do it so can i. the first week was kind of a bust. i planned out our meals had kind of some big ones, still working the kinks out and spent about $102.00. So then for the next three weeks i kind of found my grove, started planning my meals better, including fun yet healthy snacks for the kids with a splurge of ice cream or something ever now and then.. guess what my total has been each week for the last three weeks!!! well are you guessing.
here ya go.. $50.00!! (well usually between 50.00 & 55.00) depends on if we have to stock up on some essentials! like i said that includes all meals, snacks, fruit, and to top it off i do not use coupons because i do not get the paper. im so excited.. i am hoping this will help our budget and i am it actually makes me enjoy grocery shopping because i am always trying to see if i can keep it right at that mark.
ok like i said this post is more just because i am excited about my accomplishment.. i doubt anyone really cares about our grocery shopping habits!

if you know someone..

my friends are trying to sell there house. they would like to have people look at it as soon as possible. if you know anyone that may be interested, please refer them to this site. it is in a great neighborhood and they are asking a very reasonable price. the more this gets around the better!
thanks cg

i think we are in trouble...

yesterday we were driving in the van running some errands.
rewind likes to kind of sing, but it is weird, it kind of comes out like a weird hummm.
anyways curls gets annoyed with it so rewind is singing and the following occurred.
rewind singing: (hmming and doing the motions to the alligator monkey song)
curls: "rewind quiet"
rewind: (stops singing and looks over at curls) AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
curls: "rewind quiet"
rewind: (again shoots curls a look) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
curls: "REWIND...QUIETTTTTT"
rewind: AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
curls: (losing his temper, frantically tries to get his arms out of the shouler restraints of his car seat to reach over and grab rewinds arm) " REWIND -- QUIETTTTTT!!!!"
rewind:(looks at his arm, glares at curls) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

i don't know if this was the right response or not, but sargento and i were in tears laughing. we eventually corrected them and told them to stop fighting. but were were having a hard time not laughing through our stern faces!

just for one~

so i heard this song on the radio today. then i spoke to the person this blog is for. i just started laughing in my head. usually i would not be the person to tie a song to what someone is going through but i literally laughed out loud when i heard it and thought of you and your situation.
so if you think you are the lucky person you can watch the video here, or you can read the lyrics here! hope you get as good of a laugh out of this as i did!

hey hey hey goodbye...

today we said goodbye to the ugly mustard green refrigerator that we had when we moved in. it started leaking and was just gross so we received a new one today. is it weird that i get excited about new appliances. but this one is bigger and new and great for now!
(side note .. this is not ours.. i don't know many people that keep a perfect turkey in their fridge, but it is the same model!)

seriously what can i say.....

so i came home from a wonderful evening of pampering myself and just relaxing and having fun ..i even got to treat myself to a pedicure which is rare for me, but that i really enjoyed. (anyways i know no one is probably to excited to see a picture of my feet, but i just love the way they feel and look after i have one!) i was telling sargento about my blood thirsty nail chic when the following happened..

i don't even know what else to say besides to post pictures.. seriously if i want to keep having nicely shaven legs.. i am going to need a lock box for the shaving cream in our house. just so you know if this ever happens at your house.. feel free to call me. i have become an expert at cleaning it up and told sargento that i can officially put on my mom resume that i am an expert at the clean up and disposal of shaving cream.. the damage was about the same as last time, but my camera battery died, so you only get the three..i am sure you get the point!

( i wonder if this qualifies me for a pay raise? lol)

good job daddy

well as most of you know we have been working with curls on potty training. well today sargento came home from work and curls was very excited to see him. he wanted sargento to go look at his train set that he had put together in the bedroom. Sargento said just a minute and walked in the bathroom with curls in right behind him ... this was the following conversation~

sargento: hi..whatcha doing?
curls: come on dad.. train
sargento: well i have to go potty first and then i will come
curls: oh you go potty.. good job daddy!
sargento: thanks

then curls went and waited in his room and waited for sargento to come in there. just very funny how their little minds work!

bullies & how to deal!

so i was reading on of my parenting magazines today and came across and article on bullying. it gave you strategies to help your kids fight off or better deal with i guess i should say bullies when kids are struggling. now granted my kids are not in school yet so this has not really been to big of an issue for us but it did make me think of my sister in law. she is very funny and taught her girls a great way to deal with a bully on there school bus! here it goes.
she has three girls that are in school and all ride the bus. there was some kid that was always picking on one of them saying they were "odd-strange-weird" you get the picture. so "J" my SIL thought up a great way to take care of the kid and do it in a funny manner. when the bully would start to call one of her girls weird for example that girl would say "nope im not weird, she is weird im odd" talking about one of her sisters. then the other sister would say "well i might be odd but she is strange" totally stealing the bullies thunder and joking about it themselves. i thought it was so creative and it totally diffused the situation.
if you are interested in checking out the article it is in the september issue of Wonder Time Magazine!

what a night..

sorry about all my olympic posts but last night was another great night in swimming. first natalie with her defending gold. it was great!
aaron piersol also nailed the goal. it was so good to watch him also defend his gold! woo hoo!

phelps with his 3rd goal to tie with other olympic champions. how exciting for him. one more and he will be one of the greatest olympic athletes ever!

also a shout out to the mens gymnastic team for pulling out the bronze, espcially with out any returning olympic athletes!

one of the best olympic moments ever!!!

ok first off.. i have to admit that when i watched this i was literally out of my seat, jumping around yelling like they could hear me all the way in Beijing. HA HA to the french trash talkers. I only say that because they talked trash and the Americans killed it. It was literally the best thing i have seen so far. even if you are not that into the Olympics you have to watch this you just have too.

try this link first here.
(don't panic it takes a second for the picture to come up after they start talking)
if for some reason it does not work go here - then click on video - highlights- mens 4x100! You will not regret it! it was awesome. I can not wait to watch more!

my musical nightmare~

today i was covering music time in primary (where are all the kids are) for a friend that was out of town. i don't know why she asked or why i agreed. i have zero musical ability. (ask my mom!)
anyways i was working with the younger group of kids trying to help them learn a song. i was trying very hard to make if fun, but also have them sing loudly so they would not be able to hear me. anyways towards the end i said "you need to practice this a lot so next week you will know it without any problems." then one of the kids goes "your gonna be here next week" i know they did not mean it like it came out, but i started laughing and said "unfortunately yes i will" poor kids. i know i can not carry a tune or conduct music for that matter. good thing we only have one more week!

if you ever....

if you ever think that your children are playing nicely in their room while you are sending your mother an email... take it from me.. maybe just maybe .... YOU SHOULD CHECK!
(especially if suddenly you have an overwhelming smell of shaving cream in your house)
i apologize for all the pictures but i am just trying to do the damage justice~

just in case some of you are out their thinking.. what a neglectful mother.. where was she when all of this was happening. i can reassure you i had just checked on them and that they were able to cause this amount of destruction all with in about 5 minutes!!

in case you were wondering what my reaction was to this destruction..it was laughter. at my bridal shower a woman named Lucinda gave me some advice. this was it.

"bad things are going to happen ~ so you can either laugh or you can cry about it ~ so you might as well laugh"

i think i have laughed my way through every mini disaster we have ever faced.. and for some of you that know me well.. you know laughter is something that comes at the most inopportune moments! (for me anyways)

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."

-President Gordon B. Hinckley
