the fighter fighters are coming~

so the excitement in our house yesterday was this.
we had lunch. garran thought that he had turned the burner off, however it did not click to off all the way and it was stuck on high.
we were sitting in the living room and smelled smoke and garran saw flames reflecting in a door knob.
garran ran in the kitchen and there were flames almost all the way up to our ceiling.
our house was full of smoke.it looks like white smoke here but it was really black and thick!
cullan started yelling "the fighter fighter are coming - the fighter fighter are coming"
garran threw the pan to the floor so that the cabinets and ceiling would not catch on fire.
while this was smart from setting the rest of our place on fire... not so great for our floor.
oh well. we are grateful it was not more serious and that everyone was ok.
oh yeah and that the "fighter -fighters" did not have to come!

ju-ju-juice-juice~

so one time garran told kael if he wanted a cookie he would have to dance for it. he was obviously just teasing him. however now kael has taken to dancing and singing for everything he wants. these are a couple of the ones that he does. some times they vary but the tune is always the same-

ju-ju-juice-juice or cook-cook-cookie

you get the idea. enjoy the video. he is such a ham!

ps. you have to love the card table/computer desk in the back ground. we just got rid of our computer desk and are on the hunt for a new one! no one else may even notice but it just looks like all our junk is shoved on it. =0)

on the mend~

slowly but surely our bathroom is coming along!
finally repairs are being made.

blast from the past~

(Newbold-Perkins-Hair)
so recently, missionaries that used to serve here many moons ago, they contacted a family in our area and said they were going to be in town and that there were a few families that they would like to see. so a bbq was planned and we got to catch up and visit. it was so much fun. luckily we had awesome weather too!

when we first got there all the kiddos played on the playground while we got the grills ready!cullan on the slide.
yes he is sporting a tie. it has to do with a platypus named perry. long story!
briea pretty much slept through the majority of the evening.blondie here was so cute. i said say cheese. she did. seriously so cute!this is blondie's older sister. when we first met their family, she was 18 months. it is amazing how time flies!
such a great family. we just love when we get to get together and play with these guys!ed attacking our baby...then he changed his mind and decided to attack some chicken =0)

of course we had to get some group shots in-

guys with the p familyguys with us

it is so crazy. when these guys were here last, we had no babies. in fact we just found out we were expecting cullan the last week Newbold was here!the boys wanted their picture taken with the fellas =0)
i missed some of the families that were there but we had such a good time hanging out and remembering fun times that we had. we hope they have a great rest of their trip and a safe drive home!
here is a funy little extra from our bbq.
so we were all eating dinner and this little girl just walks up to the table from the park and says "can i have some water" we didn't have any so she said "well i just take some sprite then!" we all kind of laughed at her boldness but she took it and left. then her brother came over and said he wanted some. later we were all standing around talking and i looked over and decided to snap this picture. not the best quality but you get the idea.

while we had our backs turned they stole a bag of chips off or table... can you believe it.

crazy kids!!!

humbled~

i guess from reading the last few days of our blog it must seem like life around here has been miserable. CRAZY YES...miserable no!
today i remember why my children humble me on a regular basis and why i love them so much.
this morning i was trying to get everyone dressed and out the door to meet a friend at the park. i had cullan kael and briea dressed and was getting ready to tackle shoes and the diaper bag. cullan went and got his shoes and we got them on. kael then came to me and i asked him to please go get his shoes out of the bedroom.
instead he must have misunderstood because he went in and emptied three drawers of clothing.
needless to say i was not in the best mood. obviously frustrated, kael looked up at me with his big dark puppy eyes and said "i sorry for getting clothes out mommy" but due to my anger i just looked at him and then continued to put his shoes on.
then it seemed like everything went crazy. phone was ringing with some telemarketer, briea was screaming and cullan busted his lip. at this point it was more than obvious that i was frustrated. cullan sat down next to briea and was trying to get her to stop crying by talking to her and trying to give her, her binkie. then as i was putting stuff in the diaper bag i hear a small little voice behind me say, "Mom, I go clean my room. That make you happy. OK?" it was cullan. how sweet was that. then he said "kael you make briea happy, i go clean. ok!
my heart just melted. what sweet boys i have!
after that we had a much better day together playing at the park and running errands.
i love sweet moments like that!

and so it begins~

today we thought it would be fun to take the kids to the summer movie special.
at our local theater they do one movie on Wednesday and Thursday of each week and only charge $3.00 to get in. Plus if your 2 and under its free! GREAT DEAL!!
ok, so im sure everyone has had those days when you plan fun stuff and you get all excited about how much your kids are going to enjoy something.....then slowly your day falls apart!
hang on .....here we go.
garran was supposed to be home at 8:15 this morning...through no fault of his own, he did not get home until 9:00.
we needed to leave by 9:30 and i still needed to shower!
so we actually get to the theater by 9:30. things are looking good. we got seats all together, the kids got their free popcorn, and garran and i got a drink to split.
we sit down with about 20 minutes to kill. (you have to go early because it fills up really fast)
everyone is getting situated and the kids have already started to enjoy their bags of popcorn. so, while we were sitting their watching the silly things they play before the previews even start, i decided i want a drink. i go to pick the cup up and the lid flies off and it goes everywhere.
MAINLY ON ME!!!
what did not get on me landed all in my diaper bag. (yes we took briea and yes she did awesome. i think she was the most well behaved. she slept through most of it=0)
so i was trying to not be grumpy about the fact that i was extremely wet - cold- and worst of all STICKY! plus the movie had not even started yet..
arggggg!
i decide to suck it up and try to enjoy the movie for the kids. they seemed really excited and were having a lot of fun. so while they were sitting and chatting about what they were watching i start trying to wipe out the diaper bag as best i can.. then of course something else has to happen... cullan drops his whole bag of popcorn all on the floor while he was trying to get up from his chair...no the movie still had not started yet!
finally the movie starts, the kids loved it, and while the movie was cute, i would have to admit my favorite part was the nice warm shower i got to take when we got home =0)
ps. we went to go see monsters vs. aliens. very cute. my kiddos are still talking about it!

misunderstood~

today cullan was talking to me. this was our conversations:
cullan-mom kael hit me.
me-well i will go talk to him.
cullan-mom spank his butt
me-cullan, i don't really like you saying that.
cullan-"mom spank his butt...PLEASE"
some how i think he misunderstood what i was trying to say.

practicing~

we have been practicing with the boys own saying their full names. we have also been talking about family alot and practicing saying family names as well. cullan does really well. obviously he is a year older than kael. kael however is so dang cute at his attempts. when we try and get him to say things, this is how just a few come out...
grandpa jeff m = grandpa jeff elephants
kael patrick G = kael patrick go-kiss-me
so cute.
hopefully my kids will be able to look back and laugh at how cute and funny they were when they were little!

4 month checkup~

STATS:

WEIGHT-17LBS 2OZ (95%)

HEIGHT-24.5 INCHES (50-75%)

briea baby went for her four month check up. obviously she is doing well. our pediatrician suggested we start trying cereal so today was the first try. as you can see, it was entertaining!

4th of July~

well this year our fourth of july was not exactly how we would have liked but we still had a good time. around 9:00 am we went to a parade. it rained the majority of the time. i was was so sad because i was sure i was going to get some fun pics of the kids and plus who likes to stand in the rain for a parade. we did though and the kids had a lot of fun. it was an impressively long parade and they threw candy, which we were not used to. i think the kids seriously got like 2 lbs of candy! this is not even all of it. it was insane.
it was so funny because at the parade the parade if yelled woo hoo for a certain float they would always throw something fun for the kids. if garran yelled they would not throw anything. we got a pretty good laugh about that. guess i just have a good parade yelling voice =)
after the parade we just kind of hung out. not much to do when it is raining besides just hope it stops and wait for fireworks. well this is lil miss just hanging out. i added it just because i though she looked so cute in this shirt.
so we were waiting for fireworks to start and i stepped on a nice piece of glass. garran had to do a little impromptu surgery on my foot to get it out. needless to say my foot was pretty sore. so we decided not to park downtown to watch the fireworks but to sit up in the park where it is a little more family friendly. plus are kids are not big fans of the big booms that come along with fireworks. while we waited for the fireworks to start, these nice people behind us were letting their kids do sparklers and asked if our kids could have some. so each of the boys got to do a few sparklers. they thought it was great!
then it was time for the big show!

the fireworks were great as usual. however at the end it was way past my kiddos bedtime and they were ready to go. briea was out and we were quickly losing cullan.

can't you tell by that nice big yawn.

we hope everyone had a great fourth!!

GO USA~

today i was so excited. i had not done anything for a kind of girls day/night in a while and i was super excited about my plans for today. i used to do fun things like this with my friend mandy like this every couple of months or so but since she has moved away i have not had the chance. its just not as fun going by yourself. anyways i met up with my friends this morning and was excited for the pampering to get under way.
it was wonderful. massage chairs, foot rubs... it was great. i loved the color i had found. i am only brave enough to wear really bold colors on my toes. then the man asked if i would like a design. my one friend frequented this place often and always had cute little flowers and things like that. so i said sure. he started to do a little flower and then stopped and wiped off all the polish to start over. i asked if i had messed him up. he said no and went back to work. i was chatting with my friends and not really paying to close attention to what he was designing... well guess what i got.....

just call me patriotic!

yeah probably not my first choice. i might have said something but the nail tech was so proud of it and then three other ladies made a comment about how cute it was and wanted the tech to do it to their nails too!

i guess it will grow on me. i mean it is the fourth of july right!!!

ps. if you are wondering if that is glitter on my flags...it is!

fruit snacks~

today cullan asked me if he could have a fruit snack.
i said yes.
then he asked if he could have another.
i said no.
then he walked over to me with both hands on his hips and said
"but mom i want a fruit snack because I AM THE MAN!!"

our story

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
