to much, to young!

I am sure that I might get some hate mail about this post. But its ok. I can take it. I have a real problem with this. The other day, we had Nickelodeon on. My kids were not watching, the tv just happened to be on. I sat down to start to flip and this is what I saw.
 REALLY?
I know that my kids will be exposed to homosexuality. Cullan already has at school. But I just have a hard time with this coming from what is supposed to be a channel for young children. I feel the same way about sex education. I know that they are going to be exposed to it, but I would like to have the opportunity to prep them. I am just amazed how how many different avenues these different topics are introduced to our children. Needless to say, we will not be watching this channel or if we do it will be carefully censored.

I have had concerns over these shows for awhile too. I noticed that my kids (the girls mostly) will emulate the silly attitudes of the girls on those shows. It is kind of sad. I always tell my girls they don't need to be Miley Cyrus to be cool. I agree, this is over the top. It is a kid's show. What happened to whacky antics and benign situations that had some sort of uplifting message? I prefer to be in charge of when/how situations are posed to my kids. I think I am coming to the realization I'll have to censor TV more than I have been. It is unsettling to think the media decides what is appropriate for my kids and at what age they should be exposed to a myriad of situations (sexuality, worldly attitudes, even dating at young ages). Thanks for the post. I avoid these shows as much as possible (they are like nails down a chalkboard to me :), so I likely wouldn't have known.

I have severely limited the TV in our home. No cable at all! We have only the PBS channels now. So all my girls watch is Super Why, The Cat in the Hat, Caillou, etc. Sometimes when I go to my in-law's house, they have Disney channel or nickelodeon on and I can't stand to watch it. I don't know what show it was, but one day in particular, it was a younger brother and an older brother talking. The younger mentioned something about taking down a poster. The older said something along the lines of, "Nah, I just hid it behind this one" and when he lifted the band poster, it was a woman wearing a string bikini ON DISNEY. Right then and there I made up my mind. No cable TV shows for my kids, ever. And the clip above reaffirms my decision.

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
