"let's get organized"

ok when i typed that, in my head i was singing it to "let's get physical, physical".. ok i know i can be strange. i often do that. turn things into songs in my head. weird habit i have. anyways...on to my post.
so in the past i have tried lists, charts, etc to try and teach the kids about being organized and things like that. partially to keep myself organized as well. however, recently cullan said something to me that made me think....yep we need to start working a little harder for my little kiddos to understand that we do not have a maid and that her name is not mommy!
so i did some research on age appropriate chores and got to work. i loved the website www.parenting.com. they had a list of age specific chores that did not require hours of work but that were just right for each age group. i liked this so much because I guess I had been underestimating my kiddos. they love to help, so this worked out great.
i found these easy little pocket chart things for a dollar each, put 5 simple chores on index cards for each boy, and i just want to say....It has been a hit. they love them. they ask about their cards all the time and what they can do to put a new one in their pocket.so each boy has their own color and as you can see i did keep the chores age appropriate. i am hoping more that this will be a good lesson for the kids and not so much about the specific chores.
we will see how it goes, but for now, THEY LOVE IT!!

Okay... before I even read your blog... I read the title and IMMEDIATELY thought of "Let's Get Physical..." ;o) HA! We are song soul sisters!

I hope that chart works for ya. I'm still trying to figure out a 'system' that works for us. For now they know that mom is more irritable when the house is 'danger zone'... ;o)

Great idea and cute charts! We've got a chore chart too, but it's not cute like that.

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
