a white birthday~

well today is this ladys birthday. their is snow on the ground and it is freezing outside but we still wanted to send her great big happy birthday wishes! i was not able to go to her birthday hockey night last night due to everyone being sick. i feel bad that i missed it. i know it would have been fun. we always laugh and have a good time. so i am hoping she had a fun night.
happy birthday friend.
ps. if any of you know her you should go to her page and wish her a happy birthday too!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
on another note. i have one more funny story from cullan i thought i would post.
if for no reason just so i could remember how cute he can be.
so cullan and i were sitting in our chair and cullan started patting my tummy.
me:cullan do you remember there is a baby in their
cullan: a baby
me: yep, remember daddy and i told you their was a baby sister in their that is going to come live with us in a little while.
cullan: oh yeah she is crying!
me: she is crying- why is she crying?
cullan: because she wants me!!

i had to giggle. i am glad that they already have such a close bond! lol

does anyone know what this means~

this means that....
  • despite cleaning everything with lysol wipes we are still managing to pass this flu bug around!
  • at this point garran and i have both had the flu and now both have sinus infections
  • you have one pregnant mommy that thinks if we never get sick again that will be ok with her!
  • lastly that we were doing really well with no binkies-then the sickness hit and mommy and daddy caved. back to square one.

thats right this i have decided will be my last blog complaining about sickness at our house. i give up. i thought we were coming to a good point when garran said that he was starting to feel better yesterday. but then at 3:00 this morning cullan started throwing up. i guess we are going to just ride this out the best we can.

i am in a grumpy mood today because this is one of my favorite times of year and since we have been sick for what seems like forever i feel like we are missing doing some of our favorite family activities because none of us feel like really doing anything. tonight is our ward christmas party/dinner. i was looking forward to going and visiting with everyone but maybe next year =)

thanks for your patience with my complaining. this blog is therapeutic for me - i am sure of that=) hope everyone else is healthy and warm.

little peace of mind~

my friend CJ and i, it seems are always talking about safety stuff for our kids.
she has a real talent for finding great ways to keep our kids safe.
she is very on top of things like that.
so she forwarded me this link.
i had one of these when cullan was an infant but have not kept it updated or got one for kael.
i think it is a really smart idea. you never know when you might be put in this situation.
although i hope we can all avoid it.
its super easy, just call the number.
they send you all you will need on a cd and you are ready to go!
hope this was helpful to some other folks out there!

another bit of cullan holiday fun~

(we have started pulling stuff out in anticipation of the baby. however cullan must remember his chair like this. he crawled right in and fell asleep!)

since we have been spending so much time stuck inside with each other lately, i seem to be hearing more funny things coming out of my kiddos mouths. last night as we were putting the boys to bed this is what i heard cullan singing-

jingle bells
jingle bells
jingle all the way
french fries
french fries
jingle all the way!

apparently he has come up with his own version.
but i must say he really does love to sing christmas songs.
thats all we sing anymore!

how their minds work~

well as most of you know i have been under the weather a bit. this morning garran was taking care of the boys, so i took a shower but still was not feeling all that hot. so afterwards i decided i would just lay on my bed for a while. as i was laying their the following conversation occured.

(cullan enters my room)

cullan: (standing next to my bed, he put his little hand on my face and said) "what the matter mommy"

me: "well i don't feel very good. mommy feels sick!"

cullan: "mommy sick---what are you talking bout mommy?" (said with a bit of disbelief=)

then he left with a puzzled look on his face.

when i told garran the story he just laughed and said "don't you know mommys don't get sick"=)

Wirthlins Passing~

Elder Wirthlin had gone to bed at his Salt Lake City home, and died peacefully at about 11:30 pm of causes incident to age. His oldest daughter, Jane Wirthlin Parker, was present. A member of the family had been staying and caring for Elder Wirthlin, whose wife, Elisa Young Rogers Wirthlin, died in 2006.
He had continued to work at his office right up until the Thanksgiving holiday.Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, December 5, at the Tabernacle on Temple Square.
---------------------------------------------------------------
i was sad to see that Elder Wirthlin had passed away when i got onto the computer tonight.
i always enjoyed hearing him speak and truly enjoyed this last talk that he gave in general conference. what a wonderful example to us of how we should face adversity and preserver through it. i am grateful for all of his service and for the wonderful counsel he shared with us.

sickness abounds~

i thought i would blog since i can't really nap and my kiddos are watching bob the builder. well sickness seems to like our house. i thought we were on the mend from kael having the flu but we were wrong. he and i both started getting sick last night. since then kael has gotten sick twice this morning. i called his pediatrician because i was concerned that it had been 5 days that he had been battling this flu bug without really being able to keep down any food or drink. (especially since both boys have had their flu shots) when i talked to one of the nurses she was very nice and said that their phones have been ringing off the hook. apparently there is a nasty flu bug going around that is lasting up to two weeks. it is sneaky because you will be sick for a few days, start to feel better and then wham...you are sick again. so we are 5 days into it and im hoping we don't have to go the full two weeks! it is not fun taking care of sick kids, but even less fun when you feel yucky yourself. luckly garran has been great and we have had some friends call to check on us, which also was very nice!
arggg sickness stinks!
hope everyone is staying healthy and warm.
if you live near us-looks like we are in for more snow!

triples no more~

well can anyone guess what is different about today?
there is a big hint on my page.
i am probably more excited about this than anyone!
i will give you a clue-its on the right side of my blog...do you see what i am so excited about?
thats right!!!
99 days and counting-im down to double digits!!!
things are going really well with this pregnancy. the baby is pretty much always active and moving around which is a real switch from my boys.
we are still working on a name-we have one but i try not to say it to much because i end up burning myself out on it. right now i just refer to her as my "lil honey bee"-so sweet and always active moving around and im sure being cute!
tomorrow starts week 26.
next appointment is that wonderful glucose test.
it is not my favorite-but i guess it could be worse too.
happy monday everyone!

still hanging in there~

well today i am hanging out at home with my poor little kael. he has been throwing up since friday and so we decided it would be best for him to stay home instead of going to church and spreading our germs. it is not so bad though because when we woke up this morning, we woke up to this....

so kael and i are staying nice and warm inside. we have about half of our christmas decorations put up and it brings such a nice feeling into our home. i love christmas and this year even more because my mom decided to give me our old nativity set. i have always loved it and it was one of my favorite things to put out each year. it is old and little banged up, but i love everything about it. it has a lot of memory and will hopefully bring more happy ones=)

so now that most of our decorations are up, we like to sit in the living room together and admire them. i love having all the lights off except for the tree. we have watched a few christmas movies since kael has not been feeling well the last few days and things have been pretty quiet. here is a sweet picture garran took the other night while kael and i were sitting together. it has now become one of my favorites!!

hope everyone is staying warm and is hopefully feeling better then everyone at our house!

sick of sick~

well sickness has most definitely set in at our house. kael and i seem to be suffering the most. we are the two that have had issues with actually getting sick. blah i am so ready to be over this and for my house not to have that sick smell that seems to come when people are sick. i am sad garran has to work for a little while today. it is hard to stay patient and take care of others when you are not feeling that hot!! well enough grumping for now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
hopefully this will leave every one with a smile for today!
due to the smell previously mentioned i was at the store and picked up some candles.
the glade ones!
(side note: to understand why this is funny, you will have to have seen this commercial)
after i got home, i placed on of the candles on top of our stove and started looking for matches.
as i started to light the candle this is what i hear from my extremely observant son-
(he hears something once and it is in that little head of his)
cullan: "mom you make a pie?"
chuckle-chuckle-chuckle
"no it a candle-happy birthday"
at first i had no idea what he was talking about and then garran said, "is he repeating that glade commercial?"
guess it does not take much for them to pick something up-they are like little sponges!
---------------------------------------------------------
one other thing is that people have been asking me about if we have come up with a name yet.
the answer is not really. we have one in mind, but i don't know if i am in love with it.
we would love some suggestions if you know any girl names.
we just have not heard anything we are super in love with. name girls is much harder for us than naming boys!!

happy turkey day~

this year we spent thanksgiving at garrans parents house. his sister and her family were here visiting from Alabama, so we had a full house for thanksgiving.
we got to garrans parents around 11:30 and immediately jumped right in to helping everyone get ready. with 8 adults and 6 kids there was plenty to do to get things ready. kael had fun playing with his cousin julia at first. she really loved kael. (she basically had him in a head lock from hugging him so much=) by the end of the night, kael would cry when she came near him. i guess he could only handle so much lovehere is kael....and here is the hugging bandit julia!!this picture and the next one are really just for my mom, although i never mind showing off how cute my kiddos or hubby are. i am pretty sure my mom has memories of me doing this same thing. cullan walked over from the kitchen while i was sitting on the couch and wanted to show me his cool olive fingers.i just think garran looks cute in this picture!! =)

(this is garrans other sister silara and brother sam...they got a hold of my camera, now i have about a million pictures of them=)
we had a pretty fun thanksgiving, with the exception of the majority of people being sick. today both kael and i have had some issues with getting sick and unfortunately we had a love seat that we were hanging onto while searching for a new one. today though, sadly, was its last day at our house. we were trying to get ready to run to the store and kael got sick all over it. badley enough that we decided it was just time to part ways. so now we are really in the market for some new living room furniture!! oh well hope everyone had a great thanksgiving and if you were brave enough to face the crowds today... i hope you got some great deals.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

baby update~

WEEK 25 IS HERE!!!!
does anyone know what that means...only 13 more weeks, that is 105 days (according to my ticker anyways, so probably less than that because my ticker is based off a 40 week pregnancy =)
i can not believe that we only have 13 weeks left. it is going by so fast. i know that i say that every post about this pregnancy, but i mean it. i feel like once we get through christmas it is just a hop-skip and a jump till the end of february. that is when i think this little gal will make an appearance. i would love it if at 38 weeks she would decide to make an appearance on her own, however both of my boys were very stubborn and i had to be induced. so we will see how it goes. she has definitely been the most active of my three. she is always on the move and so i guess i secretly hope that, that means she will be itching to make an appearance on her own. my next appointment is on the 17th of december...and it is my glucose one. it would not be so bad if it were in the morning because of the fasting and all, but the earliest i could get in was 2:30pm. so it might be a long day. =)
other than that we are slowly getting ready. we are slowly getting clothes to put in her drawers. i will probably start stocking up on diapers, pacifiers, and a few bottles sometime in january. other than that i think we are just waiting on her. oh yeah and we have to get a car seat for her. so if anyone has any suggestions or had one that they really liked, i would love to hear about it.
well hope everyone is having a good tuesday...only two more days till thanksgiving =)

one down-one to go~

well the family pictures went well. my kids were not super excited about taking pictures today (hmm i wonder why, maybe because mommy takes their picture all the time=) anyways we got through it and i think that they will come out really cute.
so one down one to go...
now i just have to wrangle everyone for just one more quick shot to go on our christmas card. i have tried the past two sundays with no luck. we either ran out of time, or we were lucky to get out the door due to two very tired boys!!
oh well tis the season for lots of pictures and fun memories!

new family pics~

so tomorrow is the big day. i am so excited. i have every ones outfits laid out and got every ones haircut! i am super excited. i decided last year to get one-well we ended up getting a family picture, and individual of each of the boys, and one of garran and i. so this year we are going to do something similar so that i can update what we had done last year. i am praying that everyone is happy tomorrow and that we can have smiles instead of tears. i am sure it will be fine, but you just never know with little ones!! hope everyone is having fun getting ready for thanksgiving!!

birthday girls night~

last night we had a girls night at olive garden due to the fact that a few of us had november birthdays. it was a lot of fun. we had about 14 ladies go and instead of dinner we had a dessert night. (well some people ordered the soup and salad-who can go to olive garden without getting their yummy salad) i had a wonderful piece of chocolate cake. it was delicious but super rich. i had to eat little by little starting last night and finishing today, with cullans help =)
so happy birthday to krista and me ....i guess!!
(ps. i totally stole these pics from krista's blog, i forgot my camera)
krista-susie-darcy

the best parts~

today i have been humbled twice by my children...
let me start my story by backing up a few days to this past sunday. we were at church and the topic was how we (or the men in our lives) should take the time to really appreciate and love the women in their lives. that often times the women might feel under appreciated or over stretched with responsibilities with home, family, work, and other callings.
so one of the men giving a talk said something that i really enjoyed. so much that i wrote it down.
"the best part of motherhood comes in fleeting moments. frustrating times are abundant but take the moments that pass so quickly to mother your children and make those connections with them that they will remember." RO.
so now fast forward to today. i have been busy with taking and picking cullan up from mom school. for some reason i am really sleepy and have been silently grumping about how my children do not nap anymore. anyways i have been trying really hard to get my house clean and everything picked up and organized. i am sure some of you moms can relate with the fact that when you have little ones at home, it is a little frustrating as they follow you and seem to just want to undo the cleaning you have just completed.
so while cleaning i have also been doing laundry. this was where the first instance of humbling happened on my part.
  • i was taking a load of the boys clothes to the washing machine to start a load and i had asked the boys to please stay on the couch while i started the load. well half way through putting stuff in the washer i see kael poking his head around the corner. he started to make his way towards me and without really paying attention i kind of grumped at him that i had asked him to stay on the couch and that i wish he would have listened to me. as he turned around to head back to the couch with his little head down from getting in trouble i realized he was holding a sock of theirs that i had dropped. argg... i felt like the biggest jerk. i realized i needed to be more patient and realize that sometimes they are just trying to help. i later gave him a hug and said thank you for bringing me the sock.
  • the second time was in a similar vein. however this time it was cullan. again i had said to stay on the couch. however this time cullan came out. trying to be more patient after my last experience, i explained to him that i really wanted him to stay in the living room so i could just get this done. (my own personal downfall is that sometimes i just want to get things done and know that i can get done much faster if i just do it myself.) cullan started to head back to the living room and then turned around and said "but i help mommy". i realized that cullan really likes to help me put the clothes from the washer into the dryer. i think because the dryer is just the right height that he can really help all by himself. so i told him he could help me and afterwards he closed the dryer door, gave me a hug and said "thanks mommy" then ran off back to the living room.

i am slowly starting to realize that maybe i am moving to fast and missing the best part of my kids. the fact that they really want to help and that with all the frustrating moments that come in a day, there are also some very sweet ones too..

Happy Birthday to Me~

2008
well today has already been a great day and here are the reasons why:
  • this morning cullan came in my room and yelled "happy birthday mommy" (without being prompted at all by garran. amazing i know. but we kept telling him yesterday that today was mommy's birthday.
  • while i was dropping cullan off at mom school and doing my visiting teaching, garran was home with kael and they cleaned up the living room for me. (garran said he was planning on cleaning the whole house, but his helper was not so helpful and gave him to many distractions) i was happy with just the thought!!
  • then i got treated to lunch .... it was delicious subway!
  • i then received two of my favorite christmas movies because my sweet husband knows i am a christmas junkie and will be excited to watch them soon!
  • one of the nicest surprises was that garran decided not to go to his long class from 2-5 today so that we could spend time together. he figured it would be ok. he has not missed it all year and does not plan on missing it again. i am so glad that he is going to be around today.

so far so good. my phone has been ringing off the hook with birthday well wishers! it is nice to feel loved=) plus last night some friends and i went out for hot chocolate! what a nice birthday!

officially official~

well we had another ultrasound today at my appointment. baby looks great. very cute, heart beat was around 140, brain, spine, and heart look great. also the other probably obvious thing is that IT IS DEFINITELY A GIRL!! woo hoo bring on the pink. now i feel safe making her blanket, buying some cute dresses and just getting girl stuff in general.
YEAH FOR OUR NEW BABY GIRL!!!!
oh and one other exciting news is that this next month is my last full month appointment. then i am down to shorter ones! this pregnancy sure is flying by!

almost done 2007~

well last year at this time things were all mixed up. i had a good birthday and i am pretty sure that garran and i went on a date. i think we went to dinner and a movie. it is bad that i can not remember what we saw, but i am pretty sure i more enjoyed the company than what i was doing. i always enjoy date nights with garran. we always have such a good time and laugh a lot together. this year had been a long one with two different surgeries for me. first my gall bladder and then my back. it was a mess. for a while i wondered if things would ever get back to normal. but by my birthday i was feeling better and had gotten good news that we were expecting. unfortunately we miscarried a few days after christmas. it was very hard and that is one of the reasons i posted this picture. going through that really made me appreciate my boys. funny how different things change your perspective. well this was one of those things. however we got through it and have had our ups and downs in the beginning of 2008, but things have smoothed out and it is exciting to think that the beginning of 2009 will start with a sweet little baby in our home.
so only one more day of these! won't you be glad we are at the end of our trip down memory lane!

I love the saying "the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother". My husband does an amazing job of that. I am truly married to my best friend. We laugh often and try to see the best in every situation, or at least find the humor in it. We have four beautiful children. Cullan (7) Kael (6) Briea (3) and Ayla (2). We are currently living in Illinois while Garran attends Grad School. He is a talented print maker and is enjoying his time here. He has a website if you are interested. www.garrangillespie.com Right now we are living every day to the fullest and trying to have as much fun as possible along the way!!

This explains why I blog so much RIGHT?

“Your journal is your autobiography, so it should be kept carefully. You are unique, and there may be incidents in your experience that are more noble and praiseworthy in their way than those recorded in any other life. …
“What could you do better for your children and your children’s children than to record the story of your life, your triumphs over adversity, your recovery after a fall, your progress when all seemed black, your rejoicing when you had finally achieved?”
Elder Spencer W Kimball!

I need to read this every morning!

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers."
